10 Tips For Writing Longer Posts

Would you like to know how to write longer posts?

It is always good to give your readers plenty of information about the topic that you are writing about. At the same time, you want to make sure that you don't overwhelm them with a 5 page article.

When I am writing a blog post, I like to try and tell my readers enough to know what I am talking about, but not give them too many unnecessary details.

However, if you are writing posts that are only 1 paragraph long, you are probably feeling like you don't have that much information to give. If this is one of the problems you are having, you either...

A. Chose the wrong topic to blog about.

OR

B. You just don't know how to make your posts longer.

If you chose the wrong topic to blog about, I hate to tell you this, but you should probably pick another topic.

If you think you chose the right topic, but you just don't know how to make your posts longer, then I can probably help you out. You see, when I first started blogging I had the same problem. I had good tips to give, but I just didn't know how to write a good post.

Here are a some of the things that I did to make my posts a little bit longer...

10 Tips For Writing Longer Posts:

  1. Share your knowledge: Don't be afraid to give your readers good information, that is what they are looking for.

  2. Ask questions: Asking a question in your post, makes it seem more personal to a reader and it gets them involved. This way they'll be more likely to leave a comment.

  3. Answer questions: After you ask a question to your readers, go ahead and answer it yourself. This will help people to feel like they know you just a little bit more.

  4. Write down facts: I always like to hear a cold hard fact on the topic that I am reading about.

  5. Give your opinion: After writing the facts, give your opinion on them. Tell your readers how you feel about a certain issue.

  6. Explain yourself: If you are going to give some helpful tips, explain why. Nothing bothers me more than when I read a list of tips to follow, but I don't know why I should follow them.

  7. Personal experiences: It's always good to give a personal experience so that your readers can see how something might benefit or not benefit them.

  8. Give examples: Give your readers an example of how something is done or maybe what results they might be able to expect.

  9. Quotes: You can quote other posts you have written, other blogs, movies, or even books.

  10. Write smaller paragraphs: Using smaller paragraphs will make your posts appear to be longer than they actually are. This is good to do with any post, so that you don't overwhelm your readers with a paragraph that is 20 sentences long. 3 or 4 lines should be plenty.

Remember, you want to give your readers enough information to be helpful, but not too much that you make them feel like they are reading a novel.

Just think about the way you feel when you see a post that is way to long. When I come across a post that is way longer than it should be, I end up skimming over it rather than reading it.

If you feel like a post isn't long enough or that it is way to long, then it probably is.

How many sentences do you usually make your paragraphs?
