Unfortunately nowadays finding a good niche to blog about isn't as easy as it was a couple of years ago. In the past 2 or 3 years blogging has really become a worldwide phenomenon.
These days everybody wants to have a blog, even junior high school kids are joining the blogosphere. Plus the fact that it's possible to make money through your blog, has created a shortage of good niche topics.
Which leads us to the question...
How Do You Find Your Niche?
When you are searching for a good niche topic to blog about, it's always best to...
- Blog about what you know- It's kind of hard to blog about something day in and day out if it's not something you are familiar with. So find a niche topic that you have knowledge about.
- Find a niche topic that isn't overpopulated with bloggers- These days it's kind of hard to find a niche topic that hasn't been tapped, but it's always good to research it to see how many people have a blog on the subject.
- If the niche topic that you are familiar with has been done too many times, try to find a niche within your niche- For example: If your hobby is baseball, you will likely have a lot of other blogs to compete with because it's such a wide topic. So you might want to blog about baseballs up and coming star players.
- Stay up-to-date on new products- Watch out for the next big thing while it is still in the early stages of development. If you haven't noticed the iPad is about to be the next big product from Apple. This is already becoming a hot niche topic.
- Hobbies can be a great niche topic- If you have a specific hobby that you are passionate about, it is likely that other people out there will take interest in your blog.
There are a lot of great ways to find your niche. But no matter which niche topic that you end up choosing to blog about, it will take work on your part to turn that into a successful blog.
If and when you start your niche blog, make sure that you are blogging about something you are familiar with. Because if you don't know what you are talking about your readers will know it.
