If you have decided to use Blogger.com as your blog host, then you have the option of using a free sub-domain name. This is a great idea for starting your first blog because you can still choose to purchase a domain name later on down the road. Until then there is really no point in spending money if you don't have any readers.
When choosing your domain name it's important to pick a name that it is relevant to your blog's topic.
A good example would be my blog here, my blog title is "i-Blogger", which of course has "Tips For Building A Successful Blog". A couple of the keywords that I want to rank for in the search engines is Blogger and any other phrase with the word Blog in it. As you can see my domain name is www.i-blogger.info, which of coarse is really easy to remember too.
If you have a blog about bikes and your domain name is bike.com, when somebody "Googles" the word bike, your blog might appear in Google's Organic Results. Unless of course, there are 2 million other blogs out there about bikes. (There is a lot) This is why it's good to try to pick an original topic that to many bloggers haven't already done. Like we discussed in the last post "5 Things To Consider When Choosing Your Blog Topic".
So make sure that you put a lot of thought into your blogs topic and domain name. Don't be afraid to get creative, this is one of the more important things you can do when building your blog.
How did you choose your domain name? Be sure to tell me in your comment. Thanks for stopping by i-Blogger.
